Preparing for 2011...Looking back at 2010.

As we get ready for the epic 2011 UP Bags Tournament, we took some time to post pictures from last year's event. We had 20 teams, tons of spectators and a huge amount of fun. Rules and board specs are still listed below on the blog. Please email in your registration form. See you on the 25th.

Best Costume of 2010

The inaugural Bags Tournament saw some pretty good costumes. But, the Father-Daughter team "The Cornhole Crashers" won by a landslide. And, they went far in the brackets, too. Thanks for showing good spirits and playing bags in the sweltering heat all dressed up for 6 hours. You guys rock!

Such a Pretty Sight.

The bags were all lined up and ready to go. The tournament field and painted lines were plumb, level, square and an all-around masterpiece.

All Are Welcome.

Even these two weirdos. Ok, they are not weirdos. Top photo is one of the costume entries we had last year and the bottom shot is, well, I'm not quite sure what to make of him.

Our Favorite Last-Placers.

Mike and Stacey came in last place, but they had a great time doing so. Mike enjoyed it so much, he is playing in and sponsoring the tournament this year. Whadda Guy!

Good Times

Once again, the ladies showed up in costume style. The guy throwing was serious about getting down with his spider style.

Double Overtime

It was double over time, and late at night, when a questionable call was made by the ref. A called had to be put into the Bags War Room (located in Des Moines, IA), where all final rulings are made. The victors emerged: Team Kryptonite (Al top photo, Tom bottom photo). Head official, Julie, center.

Scoring Rules!

While we will be using ACA board sizes and court distances, the tournament scoring system being used is the "Rally" system.

1) Every bag thrown that scores will count towards a teams total score.
2) First team to 21pts wins but teams must win by 2pts
3) If tied or within 1pt at 21pts (or over) play continues until a team is ahead by 2pts at the completion of a turn.
4) Each match will consist of a 3 game set.
5) The Championship match will be a 7 game set.
6) Each player must switch ends at the completion of each game (each game during the 3 game matches or 7 game Championship).

What is 'Bags', anyway?

The description below, in its entirety, was taken from Wikipedia.

Cornhole a.k.a "tailgate toss," "bean bag toss," "baggo," "dbags," or "bags" is a lawn game in which players take turns pitching cornhole bags—cotton duck bags filled with feed corn—at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. These platforms are usually made with plywood or occasionally plastic, and are often decorated. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a player reaches the score of 21.
